United Nations United Nations Security Council

About

Haiti is currently facing a profound multidimensional crisis following the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, triggering the collapse of political, social, and economic institutions.  Without a fully legitimate or recognized democratically-elected government in place, the state has struggled to maintain authority and the country has de facto fallen under the control of armed gangs. Today, Haiti faces acute food insecurity, nonfunctional healthcare infrastructure, a persistent cholera outbreak, and the displacement, kidnappings, and deaths of millions of Haitians. As the security and humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate rapidly and gang violence expands, the United Nations Security Council must take immediate action to address the crisis in Haiti.

Directors

Fayyaz Razi

Fayyaz is a Junior in Adams House studying Government with a Secondary in Astrophysics. Fayyaz was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, but spent time in Dhaka, Bangladesh; Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore growing up. On campus, Fayyaz is very involved in the Model UN space, competing on Harvard's traveling Model UN team, serving as the Secretary General for HNMUN Boston 2027, and the Under-Secretary-General of Committees for HMUN Dubai 2025. Fayyaz is incredibly excited to return to HMUN India to serve as a director!

Outside of school and MUN, Fayyaz enjoys traveling (shoutout Google Flights!), playing pickleball, and watching investigative documentaries on YouTube.

Avani Rai

Avani Rai is a junior at Harvard studying Economics and Statistics, with a minor in Government, from central Illinois. While she did not participate in Model UN in high school, she competed in Impromptu and Extemporaneous speech on the national and state public speaking circuits, allowing her to exercise similar communication and critical thinking skills. At Harvard, in an effort to pursue her interest in international relations, she joined the Intercollegiate MUN team and staffed and directed at HMUN and HNMUN Boston — although her favorite directing experience was at HMUN India 2025! Now, she is excited to take her love for MUN back to India for the second year. Outside HMUN, Avani is involved in The Harvard Undergraduate Consulting Group, writes for The Harvard Crimson, and conducts economics research.
