Development Fund
HMUN India is committed to making direct social impact through raising money for the HMUN India Development Fund. Over the years, HMUN India has worked with different NGOs and local governments to support important causes. Beginning in 2017, the Development Fund has been focused on Shapur, in a small village in Mahbubnagar District of Telangana. Recent funds have provided solar panels to the village, resources for the local school, and access to drinking water and toilets. Learn more about HMUN India’s efforts through the years below.
2012
At the 2012 HMUN India conference, delegates and Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) committee, visited Desire Society. Desire Society is an NGO in Hyderabad working to provide welfare to children affected by HIV/AIDS.
2013
In 2013, HMUN India raised 1 lakh rupees for the rehabilitation of children affected by the Uttarakhand floods. The amount raised was donated to the ‘Save the Children’ initiative for relief efforts.
2014
Delegates of HMUN India 2014 documented stories of NGOs which were dedicated to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). A total of 1 lakh rupees was raised from the conference which was later donated to two NGOs – Ekal Vidyalaya and Bhagavatula Charitable Trust.
2015
Funds raised from the following year’s conference were passed on to Ani Choying Drolma’s ‘Nun’s Welfare Foundation in Nepal’.
2017
In 2017, a Government-run school located in Shapur, in a small village in Mahbubnagar District of Telangana, benefited from HMUN India’s efforts to improve their existing education by introducing programs and activities that focus on developing social values and increase awareness about environmental issues.
2018
In 2018, HMUN India Development Fund provided the Government-run school located in Shapur with new toilets, clean drinking water and we are working towards providing the students with necessary school supplies, building new sports facilities, providing shoes for the students, proper benches for the classrooms and including Local Arts into Core Curricular Activities.
2019
The funds from 2018 were used to install solar-powered street lights in the Shahpur village, which has improved the vehicular and personal safety of the residents while providing access to clean and sustainable energy.
Moving forward, HMUN India will focus on the waste and sewage management of the village using various sustainable technologies such as Bio-Digesters and Composters, Carbon Capture Models and Plastic Waste Incinerators, and Black & Grey Water Treatment Plants with an objective to create circular economic models around waste and water.
