Ad-Hoc Committee of the
Secretary General

(Single Delegation)

About

The Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General is one of the most competitive, high-pressure, and rewarding committees of the Harvard Model United Nations Conferences. The committee is designed to thrust delegates into a dynamic, unpredictable environment that demands quick thinking and adaptability. The background guide will not be released until a few days prior to the conference, and the crisis backroom will move at a faster speed, forcing delegates to be resourceful, creative, and quick thinkers for their front-room speeches and backroom crisis maneuvering. While intense, the ad-hoc committee gives even the most seasoned delegates the opportunity to challenge themselves and polish their debating skills.

Hint One

Dear Delegates,

As the committee of ****[REDACTED]*****  made its way toward the chamber to begin debate, someone stumbled upon a curious letter — a diary, aged and delicate, written by a young girl in the early 1300s, just years before the world began to fracture.

Its contents are sweet and innocent on the surface… but there’s more.
Hidden within her words is a puzzle — a code that unlocks something far more important than it first appears. Somewhere in her letter lies a password.

If you manage to find it, email me the password, and I will send you a special hint from the background guide that could give you a meaningful edge in the days ahead.

We’re working really hard behind the scenes to make this committee unforgettable — and I can’t wait to see who among you will be the first to uncover what’s hidden in plain sight.
Good luck, detectives.

Always remember: The number gives the path, the word gives the answer.

Warmly,
Steven Giraldo
